On the death of Costas Calfelis

Yesterday at the age of 80 after a long illness died Costas Calfelis, a prominent European and Luxembourg journalist.

Born February 26, 1933 in Thessaloniki, Greece, he studied political science and journalism at Geneva, Paris and New York. Under the dictatorship of the colonels he was arrested, imprisoned and tortured. He managed to escape and fled to Geneva where he obtained political asylum in 1967.

Costas Calfelis established in the Grand Duchy 18 years ago. Here he was one of those who launched the » Greek Luxembourg (and the Greater Region) Chamber of Commerce and Tourism» which was started functioning in 2010.

Costas Calfelis was a great friend of the Russian Embassy. In his publications everyone could see the distinct critical, honest and objective approach.
