Statement of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the tragic events in Odessa

The tragic events that took place on May 2 in Odessa and led to 38 dead and 50 wounded are seen by Moscow as a new proof of the criminal irresponsibility of the Kiev authorities which supported radical nationalists, including Pravy Sektor, leading a campaign of terror against supporters of the federation and real constitutional changes within the Ukrainian society.

We strongly condemn it.

Together with the punitive operation being conducted by authorities in Kiev the current tragedy in Odessa is another confirmation of the criminal on the strength and intimidation that have nothing to do with the obligations of the agreement of 21 February and the Geneva Declaration of 17 April.

Russia is outraged by this new crime in Odessa and urged Kiev’s Western protectors to end the anarchy of strength and to demonstrate accountability to the Ukrainian people.
