70th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy

The 70th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy is  commemorated by 19 heads of state and government on May 6 on the Beaches of Normandy for celebrate this great moment of solidarity and sacrifice that was decisive to the end the World War II.

At the invitation of the President of the French Republic, François Hollande, TRH Grand Duke Henri, Grand Duchess and HRH Grand Duke Jean arrived on June 6, 2014 in Normandy to attend the commemorations and festivities. In this mission they are accompanied by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Mars Di Bartolomeo, the Prime Minister, Minister of State, Xavier Bettel, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Étienne Schneider, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, General Mario Daubenfeld and Luxembourg veterans of the Second World War.
