J.Asselborn at the of General Affairs Council in Luxembourg
The Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn participated in the General Affairs Council of the European Union on 22 of April 2013 in Luxembourg.
The Council, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland Eamon Gilmore, began its formal session with a discussion mainly focused on financial framework.
Ministers then discussed the European Council of 22 May 2013, which will address the issue of energy and focus in particular on the issue of the completion of the internal energy market and interconnections, the need to stimulate investment in modern energy infrastructure as well as the challenges of high energy prices. In light of recent developments, the European Council will also discuss a tax policy and will be focused on ways to improve the efficiency of tax collection and the better fight against the tax evasion and fraud in order to strengthen the fiscal position of the Member States and deepen the internal market.
Finally, ministers have completed their work by reporting to the Commission on Serbia, Kosovo and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in the presence of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and common security policy, Catherine Ashton.
