Jean Asselborn at the EU General Affairs Council and the EU-ASEAN ministerial meeting in Brussels
The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, will visit Brussels, on July 23 2014, to participate in the EU General Affairs Council and the EU-ASEAN ministerial meeting.
The General Affairs Council will review the program of the Italian Presidency and the implementation of the conclusions of the Extraordinary European Council of July 16 2014. The members of the Council will also examine the mid-term review of the Europe 2020 strategy and the issue of the accession of Lithuania to the economic and monetary union.
Then Jean Asselborn will participate in the EU-ASEAN ministerial meeting. The EU ministers and theirs counterparts from ASEAN will discuss regional issues in Asia and Europe, including cooperation on maritime security, improving connectivity between two regions and the development of the EU-ASEAN partnership. At the meeting, the ministers will also discuss urgent political issues such as situation in Ukraine, the Middle East and the North Africa. They will focus also on fight against terrorism, climate change and organized crime.
