Jean-Claude Juncker elected as President of the European Commission
June 27, 2014 Jean-Claude Juncker was elected on the post of the President of the European Commission for the coming five-year term at the meeting of the European Council. The leaders of 28 EU states offered overwhelming support to the Luxembourg candidate.
From 14 to 17 of July the European Parliament will take the approval after which Jean-Claude Juncker officially takes office. The Former Luxembourg Prime Minister and the head of the Eurogroup won as a result of intense struggle with other strong competitors.
The Russian Embassy in Luxembourg congratulates Jean-Claude Juncker with election as European Commission President and hopes that his efforts on this post will contribute to the strengthening of ties and partnership between Russia and the European Union.
