Jean-Claude Juncker will be awarded by the University of Porto
Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker will travel to Portugal to receive the degree of Doctor «honoris causa» awarded by the University of Porto.
The University of Porto has decided to award the degree of Doctor «honoris causa» to the Prime Minister of Luxembourg for his contribution «to the development of European construction» with a «constant concern for a more social Europe».
The document notes that Jean-Claude Juncker, who also chaired the Eurogroup for eight years, «is a renowned politician, performing functions within the government of Luxembourg for over 30 years, including 18 years as the Prime Minister», that made him «the oldest head of state elected democratically in the world.»
The statement, signed by the Rector of the University of Porto, José Carlos Marques do Santos, also reported that Jean-Claude Juncker is «a great friend of Portugal and the Portuguese who live in Luxembourg.»
