Luxembourg Justice Minister François Biltgen resigns

Luxembourg’s Justice Minister has handed in his notice to follow his “dream” of becoming a judge at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.

François Biltgen announced his resignation in the Chambre des deputés on Thursday evening in what was his last speech to the house.

He told politicians his dream had “always been to work as a judge at the European Court of Justice.”

«I studied law and I always commented on the facts in relation to the European Court of Justice,» he said, adding: “to become a judge at the European Court of Justice would be a good way to close the loop.»

He said the decision was final, he had handed in his notice to Mr Juncker and Grand Duke Henri and it was for them to decide whether or not to accept.

Speaking with emotion and tears in his eyes, the minister thanked his colleagues, party members and opponents for following his career.
