Referendum planned on Luxembourg’s Constitution

Luxembourg’s new coalition government plans to organise a referendum regarding the country’s Constitution.

At the same time a number of changes are expected to existing laws.

These include:

  • National Day on June 23, which the coalition says must remain a civilian and military event with no question of removing the «Te Deum» service;
  • dropping the label “opaque state” with regard to Luxembourg’s secret banking because it wrongly gives the impression that money laundering still operates legally in the Grand Duchy;
  • reform of Luxembourg’s Secret Service (SREL);
  • reform of the law on marriage and divorce, perhaps opening the door for gay marriage. (Luxembourger Wort)
