Spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly

The regular (spring) session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) took place on 17-20 May 2013 in Luxembourg, that assumed the rotating presidency. The last NATO PA session was held in the Grand Duchy in 1997.

The session was attended by parliamentarians of 28 NATO-members and 18 associated states. A significant contribution to its work was made by the representative delegation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

The President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Hugh Bayley, the Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Jean-Claude Juncker, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Grand Duchy Laurent Mosar and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen addressed the opening plenary sitting on the first day of the forum. They shared their summing-ups of the Alliance development during the past years and dwelt upon the challenges it was facing.

Following the plenary session the North Atlantic Council at the level of ambassadors held a joint meeting with the members of the Parliamentary Assembly. The meeting was based in mode of the responses to the questions asked by the heads of national delegations. The parliamentarians contributed the rest time to the work in the standing committees.
