The address by Jean-Claude Juncker at the inauguration of a new building of the European Court of Auditors

The inauguration of a new building of the European Court of Auditors in Kirchberg on Wednesday was announced by the Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker as «a good investment in the future.»

J.-C. Juncker added that the Court «is in fact the court of European citizens and taxpayers. Its control mission is more necessary than ever. Even more necessary, however, a change in political mentality at all levels in the direction of greater fiscal responsibility and therefore citizens.»

The Court also had an extraordinary meeting of the Presidents of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the EU-States concerning the next European Council meeting in June. An emphasis was placed on the importance of ensuring adequate provision of audit and accountability in the context of economic and monetary union and  banking union.
