The State visit of Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg to the Republic of Turkey
From 18 to 22 of November 2013 Grand Duke of Luxembourg Henri and his wife are paying the state visit to the Republic of Turkey on the invitation of Turkish President Abdullah Gul.
The delegation of Luxembourg consists of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister J.Asselborn, Finance Minister L.Friden, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade E.Shneider and representatives of the business community of the Duchy. The economic mission includes the representatives of leading Luxembourg companies in the fields of finance, industry and logistics.
The Grand Duke met with Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. During the meeting the Grand Duke pointed out that Turkey is an important partner of Luxembourg in such sectors as finance, logistics, information technology, renewable energy sources. The Turkish Prime Minister welcomed the establishment of direct air links between Istanbul and Luxembourg in June 2013.
One of the central events of the state visit was the Turkish- Luxembourg Economic and Financial Forum, organized by the Chambers of Commerce of both countries, as well as agencies Luxembourg for Business and Luxembourg for Finance. It should be noted that Luxembourg is the second largest investor in the Turkish economy, after the United States.
On Wednesday the Grand Dukes of Luxembourg visited the city of Gaziantep, located in the southeast of Turkey, where the Grand Duchess Maria Teresa visited the camp of Syrian refugees.
