Working Visit of the Foreign Ministers of the Benelux in Moldova and Georgia
The foreign ministers of the Benelux countries paid a joint working visit to Chisinau, Republic of Moldova and Tbilisi, Georgia, on 5 and 6 September 2013.
Benelux delegation was led by the Deputy Prime Minister , Foreign Minister of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, which currently holds the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Benelux countries.
It was the first working visit of the Benelux conducted at the ministerial level in this format , which covered a wide range of issues with a large number of Moldovan and Georgian authorities.
In Chisinau , the foreign ministers of the Benelux were received by the President of the Republic of Moldova Nicolae Timofti . They also met with Prime Minister Iurie Leanca , Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman , and the Speaker of Parliament Igor Corman .
During the visit to Georgia , the ministers were received by the President of Georgia , Mikheil Saakashvili, and met the Prime Minister, Bidzina Ivanishvili , the defense minister , Irakli Alasania , the Interior Minister , Irakli Garibashvili , as well as representatives of civil society .
The discussions address the priorities of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between countries, including deepening political, but also economic and trade. Ministers encouraged the Moldovan and Georgian authorities to continue on this path and strengthen their efforts in the promotion and protection of human rights, respect for the rule of law and fight against corruption.
