Working visits of J. Asselborn to Egypt and Ethiopia
At the invitation of Foreign Minister of Egypt, Mohamed Kamel Amr, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, paid a working visit to Cairo, Egypt on June 9, 2013.
The meeting of J.Asselborn with his Egyptian counterpart, Mohamed Kamel Amr, was an opportunity to discuss the bilateral relations. They also made a broad overview of current politics in the Arab world and in Egypt, focusing especially on the state of the peace process in the Middle East. Ministers then devoted their discussions to the latest developments in Syria. They stressed the need to do everything to boost international process supporting a political solution to the conflict in Syria, military intervention can only lead to long term negative consequences for the country.
During his visit to Cairo, the Luxembourg foreign minister also met with the Joint Special Envoy of the Arab League and the UN for Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi. They discussed in detail the latest developments in Syria. In this context, the Minister Asselborn and Special Envoy Brahimi have such an update on preparations for the international conference on Syria, Geneva II, that will be held soon.
The Foreign Minister of Luxembourg has also the bilateral meetings with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Nabil El Araby. The discussions focused on politics in Egypt and the Near East.
At the invitation of Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus J.Asselborn paid a working visit to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on June 10, 2013.
Minister Asselborn met with the Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The meeting was an opportunity to take stock of bilateral relations. The discussion then turned to the latest developments in Mali and the Sahel region, focusing on the situation in Somalia and the Central African Republic.
