The President of Poland condemned Ukraine for the law about Organization of the Ukrainian nationalists

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted on April 9 the law on recognition of the Organization of the Ukrainian nationalists and the Ukrainian insurgent army as fighters for independence of Ukraine in the XX century and provided social guarantees to it’s members. Almost at once in Poland began public discussion on this matter. The President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski declared that recognition by parliament of Ukraine the Organization of the Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UIA) as fighters for independence complicates the relations between two countries. «The misfortune of this law is that it makes impossible the Polish-Ukrainian historical dialogue without which there is no reconciliation and the solution of important questions» — said Bronislaw Komorowski. Members of OUN-UIA killed not less than one million people, including about 200 thousand of Poles. One of the crimes of nationalists is so-called «Volynsk Slaughter» in which on Volhynia in 1943 the Polish civilian population was exterminated in large quantities. After WW2, OUN-UIA fought against the Soviet government, brutally murdered the intellectuals and representatives of local governments, Komsomol members and communists.
